Description: Frankincense oil is distilled from the resin of a small tree that grows across north east Africa and the middle east. Our supply generally comes from a distillery in Somaliland. Local tribes look after the gathering of the resin, ensuring that the trees are not stressed by overharvesting. Frankincense has been an important part of the economy in desert regions such as Somalia and Ethiopia for thousands of years. It is well known as one of the gifts of the magi to the infant Jesus and is still widely used in religious ceremonies. It is known to be beneficial for the respiratory system, and inhalation helps to slow down and deepen the breathing. This helps to promote a meditative state of mind - hence its use in religious ceremonies.
